Poly Bag Machine Operator

We are seeking a Poly Bag Machine Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the VFFS machines (Vertical Form Fill and Seal).  The position will work in a coordinated effort with Plant Manager Plant, Production Manager, Quality Assurance staff, and Production Supervisors to maintain the highest level of cleanliness, product safety, efficiency and profitability. Shall maintain written daily production records.  

Essential functions include:

  • Follows work instructions and directives for daily production.

  • Performs pre-production set up of poly bag scale and bagger.

  • Responsible for highest possible quality formed pouch bag, and accurate weights per individual pouch.

  • Programs codes on film printer as per work instruction detail.

  • Programs and adjusts knowledge/training for metal detector and x-ray machines.

  • Schedules preventative maintenance on knives, jaws and lubrication points.

  • Responsible for keeping poly bag machine(s) and vicinity clean at all times.

  • Responsible for cleaning forming tubes and cleaning knives/heaters at the end of shift.

  • Documents any issues with machines in detail for notification to Maintenance staff.

  • Studies technical publications related to machinery for increased effectiveness.

  • Trains machine operator staff when necessary.

  • Works in a safe manner and follows all state, local and corporate safety regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow instructions and use effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to adapt, with minimal or no advance notice, to changes in production schedule.

  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate machinery.

  • Must adapt, with minimal or no advance notice, to changes in how business is conducted and work is accomplished.

Qualifications:

Must be able to communicate in both written and oral forms in English. Must work well with other people, take direction and be willing to learn. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; in a food processing plant with a high noise level, storage coolers/facilities and in an office environment.  Position requires working around processing plant equipment, farm equipment, and transport trucks.  Must be physically capable of working long hours (seasonally), working outdoors, standing for long periods of time and operating farm equipment and vehicles.
