Shipping/Receiving Lead

We are seeking a Shipping/Receiving Lead to join our team. This position is responsible for facilitating and overseeing the shipment of finished product.  The position will direct the operation and oversight of the shipping crew while working in a coordinated effort with the Shipping Manager, QA, trucking company and cod storage staff to maintain the highest level of operational safety, product quality and accurate shipments.  

Essential functions include:

  • Oversee shipping of finished product to customers or primary storage facilities.

  • Complete all Bill of Lading’s (BOL’s) for all finished products prior to shipment.

  • Coordinate shipping schedules with dispatch staff of trucking company and receiving departments of customers or storage facilities.

  • Work closely with the Shipping Manager to maximize the accuracy and efficiency of shipments.

  • Insure that trucks are as full as practical to minimize shipping and transfer costs.

  • Train and oversee the work of up to 20 shipping employees.

  • Insure temperature requirements are maintained.

  • Verify that truck container generators “gen sets” are sufficiently fueled.

  • Verify that an adequate supply of fuel is maintained on site.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of computers and database applications.

  • Basic understanding of shipping procedures.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy in data entry.

  • Must be able to work well with a number of people in a wide variety of operational situations.

  • Ability to adapt, with minimal or no advance notice, to changes in production schedule.

  • Ability to follow instructions and use effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independent of direct supervision.

  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment.

Qualifications:

High school diploma.  Supervisory/lead experience; detail oriented; ability to maintain accurate numeric records; and basic computer skills.  Must read, write and speak English.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; in a food processing plant with a high noise level, storage coolers/facilities and in an office environment.  Position requires working around processing plant equipment, farm equipment, and transport trucks.  Must be physically capable of working long hours (seasonally), working outdoors, standing for long periods of time and operating farm equipment and vehicles.
